Cops Think Oakland Stabbing Victim Was at SF Nightclub Fight

San Francisco police think a brawl outside a SoMa nightclub early Sunday might be the reason why a stabbing victim staggered into an Oakland hospital shortly thereafter.

While there are plenty ills in Oakland that could be explained away thanks to San Francisco nightlife violence, police probably have a good reason to think the 30-person brawl outside of 1015 Folsom at 3:30 a.m. has something to do with the as-yet unidentified 26-year old who underwent surgery at Highland Hospital in the East Bay city, according to Bay City News. The club hosted a German electronic music duo on Saturday night, not necessarily the kind of act which encourages party-goers to get their guns out. Regardless, police responded to calls of a fight at the early hour of 3:30 a.m., but most everyone had already dispersed, save a 34-year old man with cuts to his head who refused medical attention, police said. No arrests were made.

A friend of the 26-year old stabbing victim said he was involved in the fight, police said. No other information or update into his health was immediately available.

Sunday morning's incident will, inevitably, draw some more attention to the Entertainment Commission. The city body tasked with regulating and controlling the city's nightclubs has been under scrutiny and pressure since the Feb. 7 fatal shooting outside of the now-shuttered Suede nightclub near Fisherman's Wharf. There was another fatal shooting April 11 outside of other SoMa nightspots.

A call by SF Weekly to the Entertainment Commission's offices was not immediately returned. In the meantime, consider staying in and making it a Pandora night, everyone.
