"We review a detailed listing of membership dues each year and confirm that each is necessary," chief financial officer Gregg Sass said in response to an inquiry.
No word yet on which taxpayer-dues-collecting trade associations he belongs to.
According to the report, the department annually evaluates its memberships in various professional associations, adding, keeping, or culling where necessary.
San Francisco is currently a member of the American Hospital Association (dues: $86,552), the California Medical Directors Association (dues: $44,123), the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (dues: $40), and the San Francisco Medical Society, at a total annual cost of $6,390 and 119 other dues-charging organizations. They're listed on the memo, attached here as separate pages.
