Castro Shooting Rampage Leaves Stephen Powell Dead; Homicide No. 24

Police believe the 19-year-old black male alleged shooter they arrested knew Powell (also a black male); a handgun was also recovered. A 19-year-old woman and 29-year-old man were also wounded in the attack. They are expected to survive; police tell SF Weekly they believe the as-yet unidentified shooter knew at least one of them, too.
Powell is the 24th homicide victim in the city so far this year and the first since 17-year-old William Huertas was shot in the head in his Turk Street home on June 13.
Oddly, this is the second time this year a young man named Stephen Powell has been murdered in San Francisco; on April 17 a Berkeley man by that name was found shot dead in Bayview-Hunters Point.
