Car Immolated on Potrero Brings Back Bad Memories

It wasn't quite this bad. We think
An automobile was set ablaze on Potrero Hill last night, and while it wasn't a portable toilet -- the most infamous item to be regularly burned in San Francisco in recent history, perhaps ever -- there's a history here, too.

Was this the work of the infamous carsonist? Or a copycat?

Details are sadly scant: San Francisco Fire Department units responded to a "suspicious" care fire at the the 1100 block of Rhode Island Street at 1:30 a.m. last night, according to Bay City News, (via the SF Appeal).

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, "which was determined to be suspicious." No word on damage, extent of the fire, or whether a wad of newspapers was used to kindle the flames, which was one of the calling cards of the johnny blazer.

We'll keep you posted if we hear anything else. And we're forced to admit: it is a lot harder to destroy a bicycle via flame.
