Sergeant Troy Dangerfield of the SFPD said that earlier reports of a second arrest in the case were erroneous. He was unable to release any information about Perkins' background; the 20-year-old is being charged with murder.

Police are unsure what, exactly, led Perkins to allegedly shoot Powell four times in the chest and also purportedly wound two other people Saturday. While the SFPD claims Powell and Perkins knew one another, Dangerfield does not know if Perkins was familiar with his other two alleged victims.

Powell, 19, was a former basketball prodigy who once caught the eyes of recruiters at Stanford, UCLA, and Pepperdine. He is the city's 25th homicide victim of the year.
