U.S.-England World Cup Opener Free at AT&T Park
| He'll be there... |
AT&T Park will host a free screening of the Saturday, June 12 World Cup opener between the United States and England. Doors open at 10 a.m. and kickoff is at 11:30 a.m. -- giving you plenty of time to, you know, get ready for the game. Yes, they'll sell beer there.
| The first U.S.-England matchup did not go well for the home team |
But the Giants do host a game vs. Oakland at the park that night. So it stands to reason that violent inebriates ripping up the park is something the team, at the very least, will discourage.
Update, 4 p.m.: Jens Weiden, the marketing manager of Giants Enterprises, dropped us a line. He said ballpark staff will be on hand anticipating a crowd of 5,000 or so -- but more folks will be working the event if a larger crowd is anticipated. Event-goers are urged to e-mail here to enter a prize giveaway at halftime -- which also gives Weiden a potential headcount.
Entering the stadium will be the same as attending a Giants game. Your bags will be searched; you will not ostensibly be patted down. Plenty of events are going on nearby, including the Giants County Fair and a half marathon -- so there will be police on hand, just as there are at baseball games.
