San Francisco Paid Arizona Companies $16M in Fiscal 2010 -- So Far

The results are in: According to documents requested by SF Weekly and sent by city purchaser Naomi Kelly, San Francisco has paid $16 million so far to Arizona-based companies in the current fiscal year, which ends June 30. This is relevant because Supervisor David Campos last week introduced a resolution to boycott Arizona companies after that state passed a controversial immigration bill making it a state-level crime to be an immigrant in the country illegally. The supes will vote on Campos' boycott resolution tomorrow.

Kelly and City Controller Ben Rosenfield sorted through all the companies that had payment addresses in Arizona, and called them to see if they actually were headquartered in Arizona.

More than $14 million of the total has gone to Acumen Fiscal Agent, based in Mesa, Ariz. That's the company that processes payments for the mayor's much-touted JobsNow program. After that, the biggest expenditure was some $800,000 to Flouresco Lighting & Signs, a Tucson-based company that provides building maintenance materials. The No. 3 payout went to Scottsdale-based GPS Insight, for $507,500.
