If you peruse the police reports -- which we do -- you'll have noticed a spate of home-invasion robberies of late. Perhaps a man living on the 100 block of Tapia Drive in Park Merced, did too. Yesterday evening, police spokesman Samson Chan said, officers were called to his residence near San Francisco State when he reported a home invasion robbery. He later allegedly changed his tune, however, and admitted to dubious investigators that it was all a fake and that his gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

The San Francisco Police Department did not have any additional information for SF Weekly at this time -- more when we know more.

The man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. It is not known whether his gunshot wound was accidental or intentional.

Update, 9:15 a.m.: Officer Boaz Mariles tells SF Weekly, "At 6 p.m. the white male stated he was twirling his firearm and subsequently shot himself." His injury is actually categorized as "life-threatening." The man is 25 years old.
