Gavin Newsom: I'll Sign Arizona Boycott

• The mayor's comment doesn't make any sense at all to me. Who wrote this speech? And why can't he speak decent English without having to flower it up? Possibly because he doesn't really know what he's saying and he doesn't want to say anything that he might contradict in the future. http://www.advancedtechinc.com/

• I have cancelled my trip to SF and staying in AZ at Marriott Canyon Villas in Phoenix. Huge swimming pools with waterfalls, water slides and splash parks. Who needs the cold fog? I grew up in the Bay Area and lived there for 35 years. I'm a naturalized U.S. citizen and agree with the AZ law to protect us. You don't live here and experience the problems we hear everyday about bad illegals. I appreciate the any good person, legal or illegal. We need to eradicate the bad illegals.

• Until San Francisco takes on some of the liabilities that the state of Arizona is incurring, I suggest SF should either shut up or put up!

• Regardless of what my city council does here in NYC, I refuse to travel to AZ. Why would I want take a vacation in a state filled with neo Nazi sociopaths, including the state's own governor? That isn't my idea of a fun trip at all.

• We are constantly told that illegal immigrants are a net benefit to our state budgets. We are told that the economy would collapse without them. If our government leaders really believe that why aren't they requesting that illegal immigrants currently living in Arizona move to California? If illegal immigrants contribute more than they take, then the new immigrants would boost California's economy at the same time their leaving would destroy Arizona's economy. Wouldn't that be a great way to punish Arizona for its racism? I don't understand why Campos isn't pushing this idea.

• Joe, You mean the Acumen LLC contract and I checked them out a bit and they listed 3 employees out of a corp. they formed in Mesa last year which took in 48 million. Sounds like somebody knows somebody else. A reader sent this: "My recollection is that the Arizona firm handles the payroll only for the City's Federal stimulus "Jobs Now!" program, though perhaps they handle the payroll for other City employment programs like Newsom's "City Build" workers. I am fairly sure that the payroll for "real" City employees on the CCSF payroll is handled completely in-house, since during 2009 there were a total of 157 City employees with "Payroll" in their job classification titles, and their total pay (base pay + overtime + "other pay") was $10.1 million. There is one question I have, though: If the Arizona firm is already getting $10 million, are you sure that they are adding $10 million to it for a total contract of $20 million? Is that just for one year, or a multiple-year contract? And another salient question is (whether it is just a mere $10 million contract, or a fatter $20 million contract) is just how many employees are there in the Jobs Now and/or City Build types of employment programs to justify such a large contract to process payroll? (After all, the $10.1 million spent on the 157 payroll employees processes the payroll for the City's entire 37,277 full- and part-time employees)." Go to Manta.com for more info on Acumen. • Since we're boycotting the Diamondbacks for being located in Arizona, why shouldn't the Mayor and Supervisors also call for a boycott of Charles Schwab & Co., which employs over 2000 people in Arizona, more than anywhere outside of San Francisco?
