This was a heartbreaking San Francisco weekend for two painfully young men entering the prime of life. On Saturday morning 18-year-old Ilya Yurchenkov died after a late-night Friday shooting at Geary and Lyon.

A suspect is in custody; police spokesman Boaz Mariles told SF Weekly that man's name and photograph may be released as early as today. Other details were not forthcoming.

Yurchenkov, a San Franciscan, is the city's 18th homicide of the year and first since Juan Mendez Hernandez was stabbed to death last month.

Meanwhile, the BART police are investigating the "suspicious" death of 22-year-old UC Berkeley alum Konstantin Tomashevsky.

Sometime between 3 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, Tomashevsky went from waiting for the BART station to open at UN Plaza to lying in a heap at the bottom of the long escalator. A number of passers-by aparently walked blithely past the dying man, assuming he was a transient sleeping it off. Sadly, this was not the case.

Anyone who can help investigators figure out what may have happened to the Berkeley resident is encouraged to call BART police at (877) 679-7000, Ext. 7040. Follow us on Twitter at @TheSnitchSF and @SFWeekly
