Hunting Season for Liberals Proposed By Bay Area GOP Candidate Brad Goehring

Brad Goehring: It's liberal-hunting season!

The would-be Republican challenger to Rep. Jerry McNerney in District-11 has been forced to cop to making a terrible "joke" after posting -- and removing -- a Facebook comment calling for "hunting" liberals.

Brad Goehring -- an aptly named man, it would seem -- hastily pulled the following statement from his Facebook page yesterday:

If I could issue hunting permits, I would officially declare today opening day for liberals. The season would extend through November 2 and have no limits on how many taken as we desperately need to 'thin' the herd.

The Republican challenger for the district representing Pleasanton, Morgan Hill, and Tracy was quick to say this was a joke -- and obviously a metaphor for the most basic democratic tenet of voting. Not a reckless indulgence of irrationally outraged people's worst instincts at all.

Interestingly, the very same disappointed GOP voter -- Jim Freeman of Tracy -- was quoted by both Fox TV and the Tracy Press. He's that disappointed.

It remains to be seen whether this bit of martial rhetoric will help or even hurt Goehring. Sarah Palin's Web statement urging her followers to "reload" in the fight against comprehensive health care -- with images of Democrats in the crosshairs -- hasn't seemed to slow her dizzying ascent to wherever she's headed.
