Pelosi Endorses Kamala Harris in Attorney General Race

​House Speaker Nancy Pelosi threw her support behind San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris in the California Attorney General's race today, the latest in a string of prominent endorsements for the Democratic front-runner.

The announcement comes on the heels of new polling that shows Harris well ahead of her opponents in the June Democratic primary. Earlier this week, a poll commissioned by Harris' campaign showed her with 25 percent voter support statewide, compared to 9 percent for her closest Democratic competitor, former Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo.

The endorsement from California's most powerful Democrat is a plum for Harris, and comes after last week's endorsement from L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

In a statement released by Harris' campaign, Pelosi said, "Kamala will work every day to make sure that insurance companies follow the new health insurance reform law and that California's consumers get what they are paying for." Who would have guessed that health-insurance reform could turn from political liability to asset so fast?
