Vandal Busts 30 Windows on Muni Train. How Many Windows Do Trains Have?
| Well, here's one you can't blame Leonel Jarquin for... |
The 18-year-old is charged with busting the majority of the windows on the Muni train on which he was traveling -- making him very good at being very bad. After being booted off the train at Arleta and Bayshore earlier this month when the driver noticed him etching on the windows with a knife, Jarquin is accused of brandishing a bottle with remarkably destructive results. He allegedly damaged 30 windows on the train, smashing one completely.
If you're wondering how complete a job of vandalism that is, Jarquin's letter grade depends on whether or not there's a curve. He managed to damage or destroy 57 percent of the 52 windows on a Muni train. That takes some commitment.
Since the threshold for a felony charge requires inflicting damage of only $400, Jarquin easily qualifies. He is charged with vandalism and conspiracy.
The cost to the city of his alleged vandalism was not a number the police had handy. The city spent nearly $5 million in 2009 as a result of Muni vandalism.
