Nick Denton in 2009: Journalism Not Gawker's 'Institutional Intention'

Journalists are bloggers. War is peace.
My colleague Foster Kamer over at the Village Voice has rooted out the following doublethink gems from his former employer and current media obsession...

A quote from Gawker Media's invocation of the Shield Law on April 27th, 2010:

"A search warrant may not be validly issued to confiscate the property of a journalist. ... Jason is a journalist who works full-time for our company."

A quote from Gawker Media CEO Nick Denton in the Washington Post  on June 22, 2009:

"We don't seek to do good. We may inadvertently do good. We may inadvertently commit journalism. That is not the institutional intention."
While I'm pretty confident no one's going to jail over iPhonegate, perhaps "Jason is a blogger ..." would have been a more sincere plea. After all, the Shield Law does protect bloggers, and it has held up against far worse crimes than purloined gadgetry.
