Outspoken Consultant Jack Davis Denies Rumors He's Gunning for Newsom -- Yet

Jack Davis is not donating $1,000 to Gavin Newsom's political warchest. Take it from us.
Lawyer Jerry Hallisey recently made the mistake of sending an e-mail to Jack Davis, asking the San Francisco mover-and-shaker political consultant if he'd attend a $1,000-a-head fund-raiser for Gavin Newsom's lieutenant governor run. He got back an answer that said "no" in a most emphatic manner.

"Fuck him and the lousy horse he rode in on," wrote Davis in an e-mail received by a number of prominent San Francisco politicos. "How do you support a guy who fucked his campaign manager's wife? Gavin lacks to character to hold any office and has run San Franciso (sic) into the shitter."

Davis, incidentally, is not a man who has held his tongue when it comes to his assessment of one Mayor Gavin Christopher Newsom. Combined with the recent, shall we say, straightforward e-mail regarding Newsom's April 20 event at Tosca, SF Weekly had picked up rumors that Davis was working a behind-the-scenes anti-Newsom campaign. Reached for comment, Davis said he was doing no such thing -- but wouldn't mind if he was.

"No, it's totally not true. I have yet to call anybody," he said. "Which is not to say that I wouldn't be more than happy to do a commercial for either Democrat or Republican who opposes" Newsom.

When asked why he'd support anyone -- really, anyone -- over Newsom, Davis again referred to Newsom's bedding of his campaign manager's wife: "I can't think of anything more rotten. People don't understand campaign managers work 20-hour days and put their lives totally on hold."

This, Davis continued, demonstrated "what a one-man walking sewer" San Francisco's mayor is.

Davis noted he does not even know who Newsom's opponents are in the race for lieutenant governor. Informed that Janice Hahn is vying for the Democratic nomination and Sen. Abel Maldonado will all but certainly run for the Republicans Davis immediately answered, "Both of those sound fine to me."
