Yeah, but how much money did he raise?
SoCal Assemblyman and Attorney General candidate Ted Lieu -- who earlier publicized a poll showing he was drawing a fat 7 percent of the electorate thus far -- has now made another bold move.

Lieu yesterday held a fund-raiser here in the city, essentially in rival candidate Kamala Harris' backyard. The event was thrown at the Imperial Palace restaurant by Pius Lee -- the former port commissioner, wealthy landlord, Chinatown power broker, and decidedly interesting guy.

"This was an event Pius Lee put on, he wanted to make sure Ted was meeting people in the community," said Richard Stapler, Lieu's communications director. "He met a lot of folks."

Among those he pressed the flesh with were former supervisor-turned-judge Gerardo Sandoval, former Gavin Newsom District 4 candidate Doug Chan, former District Attorney Terrence Hallinan, and former redevelopment agency commissioner Benny Yee (interesting, as he was an early supporter of Harris'). Stapler wouldn't disclose numbers, but he says Lieu walked away with "thousands."

Harris' campaign adopted the "Anything you can do I can do better" line of defense when asked about Lieu's foray deep within Kamala-land.

"We'll be in our opponents backyard as much as he'll bein ours," says Harris campaign manager Brian Brokaw. He then queried how much money Lieu has raised in San Francisco comapred to Harris' haul in SoCal.

Off the top of his head, it was a lot more than "thousands," we'll give you that.
