Cops Monitoring Modeling Shoots: That's the Kind of Stakeout We're Talkin' About

Models frolicking for a photographer under the Bay Bridge
Spring weather broke Tuesday and what did we get? An apparent modeling shoot beneath the Bay Bridge. Our lousy cell phone camera makes it hard to discern, but this frame includes four fashion model-like women at the top of the frame, and a real photographer at bottom. The shooter was ordering the models to frolic, to straddle the retaining-wall fence like it was a horsey, and otherwise pose like they were going to appear in Vogue.

Within seconds, they'd attracted the attention of a group of men who'd been loitering and drinking coffee not far from the Embarcadero ferry pier...

That's right: The cuppa Joe sneaking into the shot below was in the hand of a cop, (though we're not sure which agency's insignia that is on their shoulders. Readers?) They'd been standing around chatting for about 20 minutes when they spotted the shoot going down. Wisely, they chose a strategic vantage point from which to monitor the situation, Peet's cups at the ready.

Now that's what I'm talking about...

Cop on the right: "You're not taking a picture of US are you?"
SF Weekly: "Nah, man -- I'm just using you to frame the shot."
Cop: "Ah. Okay."

When we interviewed him last July, San Francisco Police Chief George Gascon said: "If you are retired on the job, you are going to have problems with me. Those who want to work hard are going to be revitalized. It's going to be a lot of fun."

This is a warning that other police agencies have heard as well. Clearly, the cops eyeballing the lithe models below are not retired on the job. And they are having a lot of fun.
