LGBT Center Wants Its Community Treated Like Everyone Else -- Until It Doesn't

We love us some lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders, and hope their center can pull it together (if you missed it, San Francisco's LGBT Community Center is asking the city for a cool million-dollar bailout). But isn't it a little ironic that a community center for people who have been fighting all their lives to be treated equally now wants special consideration?

Says the Chron: "If approved by the Board of Supervisors and the mayor, the bailout would be the first time the city has used its general fund to guarantee mortgage payments on behalf of a nonprofit, according to the budget analyst's report."

Mayor Gavin Newsom doesn't sound so stoked on preferential treatment, although the Board of Supes wants to think it over. What do you think?
