Hit Pieces: Demon Sheep, Candidate Inc., Gavin Newsom & Bill O'Reilly Smitten
Quick political bytes from the week that went down easy.
Carly Fiorina's bizarre attack ad against her Republican primary opponent for senate, Tom Campbell: An evil furry dressed like a sheep who wants to raise your taxes. This video has gone totally viral. People are e-mailing it around and there's already a #demonsheep search on Twitter. Normally, that kind of free publicity would be great for a campaign that did an ad on the cheap. But I'm not sure here. There's been a lot of blowback. You could make an argument that it makes Fiorina look dumber than her opponent for approving such a nutty video. Your thoughts? One thing is for sure: This shows that the Fiorina campaign is worried about Tom Campbell.
Meanwhile, those lovable goofballs in the California Democratic Party launch Carlyfailorina.com, explaining why the former Hewlett Packard exec will make a terrible governor. As the Chron's Joe Garofoli points out there's just one problem with that: Fiorina is running for senate (against the furry, remember?).
A push poll reveals that Kamala Harris would defeat former L.A. District Attorney Steve Cooley in a head-to-head matchup for attorney general. However, when pollsters explained that Harris killed a cop and then refused to seek the death penalty against herself, people surveyed surprisingly said they didn't like her so much. Or something like that.
Mayor Gavin Newsom still refuses to submit to question time from the blowhards on the Board of Supervisors, but he agreed to submit to question time from Fox News blowhard Bill O'Reilly. Maybe that's 'cause, judging from the interview, he has more in common with O'Reilly than Chris Daly. Here's a sample of verbal smooches Newsom offered O'Reilly: "I watch you every night"; "I agree with some of the things you are saying"; "I am totally gonna bang the intern I saw in the green room."
