The San Francisco Medical Examiner moments ago identified the man shot dead in a brazen daylight attack in the Sunset District as Cuong Lu, a 35-year-old San Franciscan.

Witnesses claim Lu was shot dead as he stepped out of a the Pho Huynh Hiep 2 restaurant yesterday afternoon on Irving Street between 19th and 20th Avenues by an Asian man whose identity has not yet been released by police; officers in the area disarmed and arrested the alleged shooter almost immediately. SFPD spokesman Boaz Marilies said the alleged murderer will be booked today, at which time his identity will be revealed.

Lu is the city's ninth homicide of the year and first since Tony Lewis was last week gunned down in Bayview.
