San Francisco Hosts 'Cagney & Lacey' Convergence

Categories: Local News
Heeeeeeeere's Cagney!
San Francisco is not Los Angeles. There, we said it. For one thing, we finished 50 slots higher on the "America's Most Literate Cities" list. We can build on this! Also, while it's an event in L.A. to not run into a film or TV star while on line at Baja Fresh, celebrity sightings are rarer here in the north.

So that's why it's almost eerie that the stars of the 1980s cop show Cagney & Lacey have, in a sense, reunited here in the city -- without even meaning to.

Sharon Gless (Cagney) is starring in Round-Heeled Woman: The Play -- and, to make matters even more cosmic, her co-star is legendary "that guy!" actor Stephen Macht, who played her love interest on the cop show. But wait! It gets weirder -- because Tyne Daly (Lacey) will be in town, too, playing a cabaret show at the Rrazz Room! Who woulda thunk it?

We got a hold of Mona Baroudi, who's doing PR for Round-Heeled Woman. And this was news to her. She made some calls at our behest, however, and reported back that:

A. The actors all knew this was going to happen, and;

B. Daly and Gless are still "dear friends," and Daly will be appearing on a forthcoming episode of Gless' current TV show, Burn Notice.
In the meantime, we can't wait for all the principals from Welcome Back, Kotter (sans Travolta) to bump into one another in the same Transbay Terminal men's room.
