(Not) Seen in S.F.: Koala Bears

Categories: WTF?
Last time we checked, koala bears were not native to the Haight. (Wikipedia places the animals in coastal regions of eastern and southern Australia, but provided no insight as to the kinds of companions they make.)

Nonetheless this sign attached to a Haight Street tree proclaimed not only the presence of the eucalyptus-scarfing arboreal marsupial, but bid that passersby say hello to it. Supposedly its name was Mittens, which is probably what it needed to sleep through a San Francisco night.

Unfortunately, Mittens was nowhere to be found. We suspect this sign is further proof of the presence of  twee whimsy in the Haight, as opposed to koalas.

Whither thou, Mittens?
