BART Contractor Alters Time and Space

Sorry, to quote another Beatles song, "You Can't Do That"
"Eight Days a Week" was a cute enough Beatles song, but the Fabs never really thought there were extra hours in the day or extra days in the week -- they didn't start hitting the hard stuff until 1965.

This BART elevator contractor, however, has decided to take issue with the Gregorian Calendar. Hopefully, the Powell Street Station elevator job will get done by April 31, as planned -- and not, say, April 32nd or 33rd.

The completion of the project on a nonexistent day came as news to BART. Chief Spokesman Linton Johnson noted to us that BART cannot place signage up on the street -- and the transit agency's official communication regarding the elevator job refers to "April 30."

The workmen tearing up the elevator on Powell were aware of the gaffe, too. They told SF Weekly their supervisors had been informed of the miscue and the sign would be replaced "soon."

We'll give them a chance to make good on their claim before we publish the company's name. Perhaps they can even replace the signage by Jan. 32.
