A man shot in the head by alleged thieves he apparently interrupted while burglarizing his car in Visitacion Valley is fighting for his life this morning, despite the severity of his wounds.

The victim, whose name has not yet been released by police, walked outside at around 4:40 Monday morning on the 400 block of Wilde at Rutland; he confronted three men witnesses believe were in the process of attempting to either break into or steal his car. The victim was shot "at least twice," with one of the bullets hitting him in the head.

Officer Samson Chan, a San Francisco Police spokesman, was unclear of the severity of the victim's wounds, other than they continue to be "life-threatening." It is not entirely clear where in the man's head he was shot. It is also unclear if, should he survive, he is facing long-term health ramifications.

Chan could only described the alleged assailants as men "wearing dark clothing." They are being sought in an "ongoing and active investigation."
