Help Endangered Species Stick Around For Another Decade Or Five

On New Year's Day, participants will start the search for the 36 endangered species that live in Golden Gate National Parks and then take some sort of action to help protect and preserve these species. Participants have until Dec. 31, 2010 to locate and help as many endangered species as possible.

Whoever finds and then helps the most species wins. Participants can only check-off a species once they have observed it alive. Either the participant or the species has to be seen within the Golden Gate legislative boundary.

Wild Equity, which is promoting this event, has planned organized trips for participants to go out to the parks and search for the species, including the Marbled Murrelet and the Western Snowy Plover.

This just reeks of a really bad reality TV show.

Once the species is spotted, participants must follow through by taking action, such as volunteering with San Francisco's Natural Area's Program. Find out about action items here.
