Neighborhood Activists Organize Anti-Entertainment Commission Web Site

• I�m not sure why you would be blogging about �entertainment commissioners, who are loath to agree to the stricter oversight measures Chiu has suggested,� within the context of the nightclub legislation pending before Board committee. The legislation opens the floodgates to early-morning violence and clubbing, making it mandatory for the City to issue permits for restaurant and nightclub operations, 2-6:00 a.m. It excludes resident participation in the permitting process. It�s certainly true the commission would oppose early-morning nightclub legislation, if it had anything whatsoever to do with reigning in the Entertainment Commission (EC). The EC is opposing the pending legislation, which will allow the clubbing industry to ride roughshod over our mixed-use residential neighborhoods round the clock�as a smoke screen to the very legislation they drafted and promoted in secret. No meeting minutes of the EC Legislative Committee, which crafted the legislation, have been made public. In fact, no reports required by law to be issued by the EC have ever been posted on a government website, in the EC�s five years� existence. I challenge you to present a single point within the legislation that will meaningfully enhance regulation of the nightclub industry. The pending early-morning nightclub legislation and its amendment were written by lawyers for this City-sponsored and protected industry. The proposed legislation signifies rebuttal to successful civic participation by residents, in opposition to nightclub operations routinely bringing violence and disturbances to mixed-use neighborhoods. The EC is taking over the last few hours in the early morning we have left to live in peace.
