Earlier today, the Transit Workers Union predicted that the unfortunate driver who crashed her training coach yesterday -- knocking out a light pole, a pair of trees, two parking meters, and coming to rest against a building -- would be fired, unless some manner of equipment failure caused the crash.

With chilling speed, Muni has severed its ties with the driver. Spokeswoman Kristen Holland moments ago told SF Weekly " the trainee in yesterday's accident no longer works for the SFMTA."

Asked to specify when this move took place, Holland noted that "as of 8 a.m. this morning," the driver was no longer an MTA employee. She added that no one has told her there was any indication of some manner of equipment failure bringing about yesterday's crash.

The driver in question was described as a "trainee" -- and there is no grievance process for trainees dismissed during this period of their MTA tenure. Holland believed the driver had been on the Municipal Transportation Authority payroll for about eight weeks -- the standard amount of time prior to new employees taking out training coaches.
