Grass roots no more?
On July 30 The Snitch shared with readers that California Attorney General Jerry Brown picked up the phone assigned to his campaign contribution committee when called by SF Weekly's Joe Eskenazi.

"We're a grass-roots campaign, man," the item quoted the AG as saying.

Ever the watchdog, SF Weekly ran a check of the Brown campaign's grass-roots status, and called the same number again earlier this week.

Brown's campaign has apparently abandoned its grass roots and gone Hollywood. An assistant picked up the phone and took down a question we had about whether as governor Brown would regulate private diploma-mill colleges.

The assistant then referred us to a flack at the Attorney General's office, who told us Brown had not yet declared his candidacy for governor. Brown would therefore not comment on what he would do in the hypothetical event he were to run for the office and win.
