Looking for fresh meat

​Insert a feline roar here. Later this month, in a spectacle that will surely be much-anticipated by single dudes striking out with chicks their own age, older single women from across the country will gather at Dinah's Garden Hotel in Palo Alto for an event billing itself as the nation's inaugural National Single Cougars Convention.

Someone's gotta say it: Whoa.

Sponsored by the Society of Single Professionals, American Laser Centers, and other indispensable enablers of the cougar's prowl, the convention will feature appetizers from Trader Vic's (where else?), a cougar ball, and the coronation of the first Miss Cougar America. (Contestants must be single and at least 40 years of age; the buzz is that conservative pundit Ann Coulter is an early favorite.)

​There will also be a keynote address, by author Francesca Gentille and her 14-years-junior beau, entitled "Cougar-Luscious: Irresistible Dating and Relating for Older Women and Younger Men."

The cultural fad of cougarism has gotten its share of attention, but this event promises a new and more prominent platform for women of a certain age and their aspiring journeyman lovers. Short of a new Sonic opening up, are you likely to have a better reason to visit Palo Alto anytime soon?
