Two Shot inside North Beach Nightclub Described in SF Weekly Cover Story

The two men were each shot in the leg, and were transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition, according to Lieutenant Rich Pate of the San Francisco Police Department. The shooter was not arrested and police have not identified a suspect, Pate said.
Impala was one of several nightclubs described in our story, which examined the regulatory shortcomings and conflicts of interest on the Entertainment Commission, which has the sole authority to grant, suspend or revoke nightclubs' permits to host DJs and stay open after 2 a.m.
We reported that five of the seven commissioners have direct financial
ties to the entertainment industry, and that one commissioner actually
holds an ownership interest in a notoriously violent strip club --
where another shooting occurred less than two weeks ago.
Sam Young, owner of DragonBar, a venue down the street from Impala, has frequently complained about the Entertainment Commission's handling of violent clubs. This morning he sent an e-mail to city officials and journalists urging that permitting authority be returned to the police department, where it resided before the Entertainment Commission was established six years ago.
"This should come as no surprise since I stated numerous times that this would happen," Young wrote in the e-mail. "As usual, City Hall does absolutely nothing and now there is another shooting, which could have and should have been prevented."
