The San Francisco Medical Examiner confirmed to SF Weekly the identity of the man stabbed to death Sunday at his Bayview District home, allegedly by his own son: 49-year-old Levit Chavez.

Chavez' 22-year-old son, Levit Chavez Jr., is being held in connection with his father's stabbing death and the near-fatal stabbing of the elder Chavez' longtime girlfriend at 47 Ceres Street near Third Street; the alleged assailant was arrested after taking refuge at a nearby Walgreens.

Chavez is the 18th homicide victim in the city this year and the first since Andre Fluker was stabbed to death in the hallway of the Tenderloin's Dalt Hotel on May 8.
