A Murder Most Foul: James Turner, A Gregarious Student Who Worked Full-Time, Shot Dead at 23

On April 18 at about 2 a.m. on Third and Folsom Streets (as seen above), a group of young men were reportedly harassing passersby and brandishing a gun. Although police don't know why the group targeted 23-year-old James Turner, they do know that the group focused on him, chased him to Third Street and shot him several times.

Turner collapsed on the sidewalk. He was then taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he died.

According to an SFPD press release, Turner was an African-American man from the East Bay who attended college and worked full-time. He had come to San Francisco for a night out at a club on the 700 block of Harrison St. "James had never been in any trouble with the law," the release said, "and was known to his family and friends as a happy and gregarious young man who avoided trouble."

The suspects have been described as three Hispanic or white men between ages 22 and 25 years.
