Isn't Anybody Paying Attention? Numerous Newspapers Use Ridiculous Gun-to-the-Head Photo for McGoohan Obit

Yesterday, we noted that the Chronicle was breaking new ground in unintentional comedy by using a photo of Patrick McGoohan with a gun to his head to illustrate the actor's obituary. Yet it appears the Chron is in good -- or, rather, bad -- company.

Since the article and image were distributed by the Associated Press, a number of papers -- worldwide -- participated in a gallows humor-fest, albeit unintentionally. The image to the left was snipped from the French paper of record, Le Monde. Even worse than the Chron's text (which noted McGoohan's advanced age -- 80), Le Monde''s caption simply notes "'The Prisoner,' Patrick McGoohan, is dead.'"

Adding insult to McGoohan's injury (death, actually), Le Monde's headline "A ne pas manquer" translates as "do not miss" -- and did we note that it illustrates a photo of a man with a gun to his head?
