100 Google Recruiters Googling "New Career"

This just in: The economy still sucks. It sucks so bad, in fact, that Google, Inc. just laid off 100 recruiters. The company no longer needs quite as many people focused on hiring, says Laszlo Bock, Google's vice president for people operations, in a blog post.

Although it's another sign the media industry is toast, we at SF Weekly did get a small kick out of how we received this information -- via a Google Alert. Very small kick, actually.

Apparently, Google will also be closing engineering offices in Texas, Norway, and Sweden, but according to a spokesman, the 70 people working in those offices will be offered other jobs. Lucky them.
