The economy's in the crapper, but Union Square was bustling with folks elbowing each other out of the way of a bargain earlier today. Here are some of the sights we saw as we walked down Powell and Market streets, and inside the Westfield Mall:
Signs strategically placed outside the Gap store had shoppers feeling patriotic.
Families with bags of loot flowed down the Westfield escalators.
The food court was so packed that people ended up lunching on the floor.
The economy's in the crapper, but Union Square was bustling with folks elbowing each other out of the way of a bargain earlier today. Here are some of the sights we saw as we walked down Powell and Market streets, and inside the Westfield Mall:
Signs strategically placed outside the Gap store had shoppers feeling patriotic.Families with bags of loot flowed down the Westfield escalators.The food court was so packed that people ended up lunching on the floor.The Jesus-preachers, No Sex dude and other folks with random causes were out in full force.
Speaking of causes, it ain't a party without PETA, but instead of putting painted women in cages for impact, they had bloodied furs.
And since we're on the subject of people in cages, Sketchers' weird Christmas display has hired hands with Santa hats and painted faces dancing with shoes in windows. Creepy.

But for all the shopping going on, not many were feeling particularly giving - if this performer's cello case is any indication.
