Election Day Around the Village Voice Papers

Categories: Election 2008

antiobama.jpgScoff at us all you want for being part of a large newsweekly chain. On nights like tonight it's pretty useful (and hey, entertaining) to have so many sister papers reporting on their slice of this most historical race:

  • Our friends at the Miami New Times ran into Elian Misael, some dude who believes you should vote for the "Emperor of the Galaxy," who is incidentally, also known as Elian Misael. Well, no one said San Francisco had a monopoly on weirdos.
  • The OC Weekly reports that anti-Obama vandals targeted the Democratic presidential candidate's Huntington Beach headquarters. Oddly enough, these creeps didn't tag any walls, and instead left their message on a piece of wood. (See photo.)
  • The sole Krispy Kreme left in Miami is on NE 167th Street, and they were busy handing out I Voted donuts. The Dallas Observer does the taste testing.
  • Over at LA Weekly, Justin Warfield of She Wants Revenge guest blogs on the election.
  • A vote-tabulating machine went up in smoke in Houston's Third Ward, a poor black neighborhood in the city. The Houston Press reports that a repairman came by and left before he was done and had to come back.
  • Roy Edroso is live-blogging his head off at the Village Voice's Runnin' Scared blog. And he's keeping one eye trained on the Right side of the blogosphere.
  • Who knew you could vote with your used piece of chewing gum? This one's courtesy of the Riverfront Times.
  • And over at the Phoenix New Times, Sarah Fenske and Amy Silverman are reporting live from the official McCain "victory" party at the Arizona Biltmore. With the electoral votes leaning Obama's way, will this turn into a sulkfest? Stick around and find out.
