Carmen Chu wants the city to rethink its incredibly byzantine formula deciding what students go where: that's a good idea. The only problem? Without it, schools get segregated fast.
Do we still care?
Meanwhile the Academy of Art has an athletics program: we want to see the football team reinterpret Cubism. And, oh yeah, the Academy's been in violation of city code for 30 years.

I realize you are a blog, but a bit of research would be nice. The Academy of Art University does not have a Football Team. Intercollegiate sports consist of baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, track&field, softball, and volleyball. All of which you can find at least one person to give you a pin point explanation of what cubism is. Attempt to find that at any other sports program in the nation.
The University's record for city code can come into question, but how about a little love for a SF tradition of breaking the norm or a haven for social outcasts. I would say an artist/athlete falls in to that category. What say you?

Posted On: Tuesday, Sep. 9 2008 @ 2:27PMWell, personally I'd say that out in the Midwest we called them "scholar/athletes" and they wore letter jackets. But, if you want to say that they're some kind of crazy SF thing when they wear leather jackets and skinny jeans, go right ahead.
I am, as always, in awe of our ability to reinvent the wheel and feel smug about it.
Your point about the football team is well made, though. That was sloppy. For the record, however, I still want to see their football team reinterpret Cubism - even if they don't have one yet. I can wait.
