Photos: Week on the Street (Part 5)

Week's End Notes and Photos by Janine Kahn
Saturday: Stow Lake Tranquility and Motorbike Trouble
Stow Lake was lovely Saturday, though the pedal boats closed just as we arrived. And this cute turtle pile had childhood rhyme "Over in the Meadow" running through our heads. Far less tranquil was the motorcycle accident that clogged up one of Golden Gate Park's narrow roads moments before. Fortunately, a good Samaritan was on the scene. We heard sirens as we drove on.

Sunday: Alameda Flea Market
Every first Sunday of the month, lovers of aged artifacts flock to Alameda for "Antiques by the Bay." We took home a box full of vintage matchbooks for our shelves this time around, but decided against the broken transistor radio and jar lids from the 50s. $1 each? For shame!

Monday: Yummy Froggies
At $2.99/lb at Daly City's Manila Oriental Market, how can you go wrong? (P.S. Seeing "Manila" next to "Oriental" is a strange sight. But then again the Chinese population in Manila is rather large.) Yes, they're for eating. Where's PETA when you need 'em?
Oh wait, here they are...
Tuesday: PETA Pseudo-Naked Protest
Oh PETA. If you're going to go naked, at least do it right. We spied flesh-colored panties on these protesters. We already gave you photos, so here's a short vid from our point-and-shoot.
Wednesday: GoCar Encounter
These noisy, smelly little beasts are everywhere. We even saw one crossing the 3rd Street bridge later in the week (poor lost tourists...Bayview is far off the guided tour). A pollution expert in Matt Smith's recent piece says we're better off taking a Hummer tour of SF than renting these little guys. Read all about that here. Then go watch the video.
Thursday: Wishful Thinking, Re: Laptop
Dude, we're sorry we lost your laptop. But if you really truly wanted it back you could have been a little more specific than "silver Apple laptop." There is more than one model that fits this description. Was it in a bag of some kind? Help us help you, though if you lost it near Van Ness (where we found this note), you're going to need your fingers, eyes and knees crossed.
