Free Tibet Protesters Scale Golden Gate Bridge

Local news is going ga-ga this morning with the still-developing story of three alleged Students For a Free Tibet protesters who are scaling the west side of the Golden Gate Bridge to unfurl a banner and/or Tibetan flag to protest the controversial Olympic torch relay -- its only North American stop -- scheduled for tomorrow in San Francisco. Predictably, bridge traffic is said to be at a near standstill.

According to reports, the death-defying helmeted protesters are tethered together, one of them wielding a suitcase of some kind. ABC 7's live coverage confirms that the group has successfully opened a long banner reading "One World One Dream: Free Tibet 2008."

That'll show mean old China! Kidding. Seriously, be careful up there and enjoy the view.

What a great use of the bridge!

The lead up to the Olympics is Tibet's one big chance to show the world what is really going on, and they are doing everything they can.

When we see what is really happening inside Tibet, we will agree it cannot go on. Tibet must be free and the Olympics are the chance to force changes on China.

Well done, bridge climbers!
