Shoot 'Em If You Got 'Em: Lake Merced Gun Club In Crosshairs

Damn. I just heard that San Francisco has its very gun club -- the Pacific Rod and Gun Club on the shores of Lake Merced -- and already the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (PUC) is moving to close it. Granted, I'm not much into shooting guns, and I only heard about the club because it's being threatened. The place has been around since 1934, but now it's future is uncertain because the PUC is working on a plan to boost recreational opportunities around Lake Merced. If you don't think shooting guns is much of a recreational activity, here's a priceless quote to put it all into perspective -- the perspective of a 76-year-old man named Murray Baxter who's been shooting at the club for 37 years:

"It's just like golf, only we use guns instead of golf clubs."
