SF Chinese Consulate Attacked This Morning

chinese_flag.jpgThe Chronicle reports this morning that someone threw "an incendiary device" at San Francisco's Chinese Consulate earlier today.

No one was injured in the incident, said Fire department Lt. Mindy Talmadge, but firefighters found that a metal door had been heavily charred. The consulate is located at 1450 Laguna Street, but the Geary Boulevard side of the building was targeted in the attack, Talmadge said.Firefighters received a call just after 4 a.m. from a witness reporting they had just seen somebody throwing something at the building, she said. When fire officials arrived there was nothing burning, but it was clear something had been thrown at the metal, roll up garage door that faces Geary Boulevard.
Could this have something to do with the on-going protests against China's recent crackdown on dissenting Tibetans? Some San Francisco residents have also expressed anger that the city will host the Olympic Torch next month due to the Summer Games being held in China this year.-Andy Wright
