Some shocking statistics about the current "gambling wave" sweeping San Francisco's Chinese community:

  • According to a new poll, over 70 percent of Chinatown residents are concerned with gambling problems in their family

  • A whopping 21 percent of Chinese adults in S.F. are pathological gamblers.

  • About one-third of domestic violence issues and divorces in S.F.'s Chinese community can be traced to gambling problems.

Who's to blame -- besides the gamblers themselves -- that is? You guessed it! Casinos, who market heavily to the Chinese population. To combat the problem, California's first Chinese-speaking gambling counseling service has been formed. (via Examiner)
