British Check "Become Invisible" Off To-Do List

invisible_jet.jpgScientists at the Britannia Royal Navy College have raised the bar on rad, according to an article on Daily Tech yesterday. Researchers have successfully rendered a 10-micrometer circle invisible to the human eye by using metamaterials that refract light at a negative angle.

But enough with the science talk. Here's the important part:

If the scientists are able to accomplish the goal, the British Navy would have battleships that produce no noise and that are invisible to the naked eye, radar, and heat-seeking missiles. If successful, the only indication that the ship is coming would be the water it displaced.

The technology could also be used to cloak people and other objects. No word yet on when we will be getting our food replicators and time machines. — Andy Wright
