Authorities Not Impressed By DA's Totally Bitchin' PC

Mon Mar 17, 2008 at 12:06:19 PM

toy_computer.jpegA Texas District Attorney named Ray Sumrow is on trial for building a totally rad "backup" computer with state funds, according to an article in the Dallas Daily News Tuesday. The computer has "two hard drives, seven fans, high-end video and audio cards, a wireless Internet connection and cables that glow under ultraviolet light" and is designed for playing video games. The FBI was unimpressed by the relative awesomeness of Mr. Sumrow's machine. Rick Gregg, an FBI senior forensic examiner, said "I would not configure a backup computer in that way…When I saw that, I did not think of anything related to a government agency." Alan Timberlake, the assistant director of technology for Sumrow's county, called the computer's tastefulness into question when he said it was "gimmicky" and "more suited to a college dorm room than an office." Timberlake and Gregg then shook hands in a business-like manner and resolved to go to a playground later in the week where they would frown pointedly at frolicking children.
