Hundreds of Encinal High Students staged a walkout in protest at budget cuts approved by the Alameda School Board this morning, according to NBC11. The cuts will "increase class sizes and cut advanced placement classes, most high school sports, music in the elementary schools and counselors in the middle schools." Students spread word of the walkout via text messages. Kids and their crazy technology! The Encinal students marched to Alameda High, where they gathered fellow protesters and held a rally, with the intent of continuing to district offices. When asked if he thought the kids would return to class today, the principal replied, "Would you go back to class if you were 16 years old and out in this beautiful day?" It's always nice when people in authority positions try to spin the political actions of young people as just another excuse to goof off.— Andy Wright
