The pythons are coming! Run! Run! Hide your children! Actually, you could probably take a more leisurely pace since the pythons won't get here 'til around 2020. An article in today's Chronicle reports that giant Burmese pythons are slowly making their way from Florida to the Bay Area. The snakes are "highly adaptable", swallows prey in "one gulp", and can eat an alligator. The pythons are crawling at the pace of about 20 miles a month. Their natural predators are lions, tigers, and other large cats- few of which exist in the stretch between Florida and California. Bet you're rethinking that new fangled tiger enclosure at the SF zoo now! In other words, we're fucked. I for one, welcome our new snake overlords. -Andy Wright
