Killer MUNI Ignored for Carbon Crusade

Today's Chronicle reports MUNI vehicles have been in 2,256 accidents involving passengers and vehicles between July 2006 and July 2007. The number has made safety a priority for MUNI's parents, the MTA, but the position of safety and training manager has been vacant. A city report released yesterday shows funds allocated to hire a new safety manager were diverted to hire Newsom aide and Director of Climate Wade Crowfoot who will earn $160,720 this year. Newsom excuses the diversion of funds by saying the climate protection director will focus partially on public transit. Since MTA vehicles are killing SF citizens faster then climate, we call bullshit. -Andy Wright
