EFF, ACLU Go to Bat for Wikileaks
The LA Times reported today that Public Citizen, the ACLU, and local organization the Electronic Frontier Foundation went to federal court Tuesday on behalf of muzzled Web site, Wikileaks.org. The Web site, which encourages people to post leaked government and corporate documents, was ordered to shut down by District Judge Jeffrey White. The organizations are arguing that the judge's ruling violates the first amendment and that the case falls outside U.S. jurisdiction because it involves foreign parties. The case was sparked when a disgruntled employee posted documents to the site that alleged money-laundering and tax evasion schemes at the Cayman-Island branch of the Zurich based bank he worked at.
