Bill Protects Employment Rights of Medical Marijuana Users

medmarijuana.jpgThe state Supreme Court found in favor of an employer last month that fired an employee for using medical marijuana outside work, reported the Oakland Tribune Friday. In typical fashion, San Francisco responded, "You can pry our right to medicinal marijuana out of our cold, dead hands." Assemblyman Mark Leno, D-Dan Francisco, in conjunction with Oakland based group Safe Access, introduced bill AB 2279 Wed., which would prohibit employees from firing marijuana patients. In case you're thinking, "Hmmmm, I'm all for reducing penalties for sick people, but what about the guy on the forklift?," fear not. The bill has a liability exception for safety-sensitive jobs. –Andy Wright
