Stuff like this is not hard to find in SF today. Ditto for downed power lines and flooding. The worst seems to've passed. Parts of Bay Area got seven inches. Seventy mile per hour winds roared through Twin Peaks. Gusts topped 100 mph over some inland peaks. 500K without power. No super-tragedies reported, but we just got beat like Hillary. UPDATE - 11:19 a.m.: AM740 reports a person trapped under a MUNI bus at the West Portal station at 14th Avenue. Some parts of the city are without power.

11:07 a.m.: "This is a good day to stay home" says PGE. Highway 17 will be closed shortly to clear power lines. Pretty much most freeways have problems on them. See pic (the black means "traffic = stopped").

10:05 a.m. UPDATE: 220,000 Bay Area residents without power says PGE. No deaths reported yet. Major freeways super-FUBAR. 60 mile per hour winds. "Horrible all over the Bay Area."

9:55 a.m. UPDATE: A MUNI driver tells our tipster the Potrero Avenue tree fell on on a moving car and a parked car; furthermore, the MUNI driver reports a tree fell on power lines at Mission and 11 st. and a tire store sign fell on the highway at Industrial and Bayshore. Look out, commuters.

Also, AM 740 radio reports Sir Francis Drake in Marin is closed because of debris, ditto Eastbound Richmond-San Rafael bridge. At least 171,000 customers in the Bay Area are without power.

Just call in sick, Bay Area.

9:45 a.m.: An SF Weekly tipster reports that the biggest storm of 2008 has just blown over a 30-foot tall tree at Potrero Ave. and 25th St. in the Mission. Ambulances responded at 9:15 a.m. and a person may have been injured or worse. The ambulances are clearing up now. Be safe out there, kids. —David Downs
